Srikanth Uncle and all Uncles,

Happy New Year!!

Quote
Hi Srushti

Jai Sai Master!

Also please let me know if you are able to understand my inputs with ease. If there is any difficulty because of my style of writing or choice of words etc, let me know. I will be glad to try and make it more appealing to you.

Jai Sai Master!!

Thank you very much for your concern Uncle. Smiley I did understand what you have explained.

Quote
1) Yes, all of us do things because we have aspirations. We are interested in some result and so we do things which we feel will produce that result.

Yes uncle, I agree, we need an aspiration to do any little thing. I need an aspiration to turn on the TV, I need an aspiration to drink milk, anything. I turn on the TV because I have an interest  in the result that there will be a good program running that I like. I drink milk because I have an interest in the result that my bones will get stronger. So Uncle can we do anything without an aspiration ?? If not, who can do it ??

Quote
2) A good aspiration will produce a good result. A good result is some thing which will give us sustained and deep happiness and peace. 'Sustained" and "deep" are the key words.

I have an aspiration for getting good marks. As you said that's a good aspiration because it gives me a good result (deep, peaceful and sustained happiness). Uncle your aspiration is to teach me about aspiration Cool, which gives you deep, peaceful and sustained happiness IF, I prove that I got the main idea Smiley . Right Uncle??

Quote
I will try and give you some examples. Take two aspirations - a) to get good marks b) to also help your friend get good marks. If you achieve both then the achievement of second aspiration will give you a better result in the sense that it will make you more happy and you will feel happy whenever you remember it.

Uncle, in the above example if I achieve both aspirations, I will get MORE happiness than if I only achieve one. Because if I only achieve one, let's say I get 50% of happiness. If achieve both I will get 100% of happiness. That's what you were trying to say, Right??

Quote
3) Any aspiration which will give you this kind of happiness - sustained and deep - is a good aspiration and any thing which will not give you that happiness is not that good.
4) Now there will be aspirations which, instead of, giving you happiness, will make you sad and unhappy and restless. For example, an aspiration to some how ensure that your friend does not get good marks. This is an aspiration which will give you sorrow and makes you restless.
So you can summarize saying - any aspiration which will give you sustained and deep happiness is good and which will give you sorrow and makes you restless is harmful aspiration.

Uncle for example, I have an aspiration for getting A++ and that is not a harmful aspirartion. But what if I get A- ( A minus )?? That will make me sad, unhappy and restless, but you said that only harmful aspirations make you feel blue. So what catogory does that come in ?? What if I get good marks but my friend doesn't ?? That will make me happy and sad at the same time, because I'm happy that I got good marks and that I helped my friend but I feel sad because they didn't get good marks. What catogory does that come in ??

Uncle, is thinking that if we pray to god, he will fulfil our wishes and  will help us whenever we are in need,is that a good aspiration or not ?? I'm thinking it's not because if our wishes don't get fulfiled and ( we think ) that Baba didn't help us when were in trouble, we will feel sad, unhappy, and restless, which is not a result of good aspiration. What do you say uncle ??

Regarding the mosquito:

Quote
Mosquito - In the case of animals, they dont aspire. They act on instincts. Mosquito feels hungry and it bites. The intention is to get over the hunger. Once the hunger is fulfileed it does not bite any more. So from mosquito's side there is no such aspiration as being discussed here. Again, this needs to be thought about for clarity.

Now from our side, we can have the following desires - a) The mosquito is biting. I am feeling itchy and pinchy so I will kill it so I feel comfortable. b) The mosquito is biting. I am feeling itchy and pinchy so I will shoo it away or apply anti mosquito cream or some thing to drive it away with out killing it. Which desire will give us more happiness? And so which desire is better?

I will go with B. Because we will feel happier than A because we will not feel guilty that we killed an innocent animal that was looking for food. But with B, if we shoo the mosquito away or appy some anti-mosquito cream would the mosquito have any food?? Is that Good or Bad.

Jai Sai Master!

Dear Srushti

I am sorry. I was preoccupied and travelled a bit in the last month. I did see your posting though. I shall respond shortly.

Obviously, there is nothing wrong in whatever you asked. They are relevant and good.

We can not and will not do anything without aspiration.
An aspiration-less state or a state without aspiration will not have any action. If there is an action there is an aspiration.
Mahatmas - when they perform leelas - have an objective - to set us on the right path. But this should not be compared with aspiration as we understand. This belongs to a different and higher plane.

My objective in giving you these inputs and discussing with others is to get clarity for my self & yes I will enjoy a deep, peaceful and sustained happiness if we all arrive at the right answers/perspectives.

Yes ! What I meant was the act of helping others will give you a more sustained happiness than just helping your self.

Compare two aspirations - i) to get A++ ii) to steal from your friend's book.

You may not get A++, but you will overcome the sadness of failing to get A++ in a short while and you will work harder. The result is you work harder and smarter-good result.

You may be able to steal the book or you may fail to do so, but eventually you will have a result for this action which does not give you happiness. Eventually you will feel guilty.

If your question is - "Is it good to pray to fulfill aspirations?"- then my input is it is good if you pray with the right understanding. Right understanding of what God is. If I understand God in a proper sense, then I will not feel bad that He has not fulfilled the wish. I will not stop praying him because my wish is not fulfilled. So it is important to pray with the right understanding.

So, an aspiration to pray to God for fulfilling a wish is not bad. But it will create confusion if you pray without understaning Him. So, if you want to pray you must understand Him. Understanding Him will give you clarity and faith.

Srikanth Uncle,

Very impressive reply Uncle. I'll write down the main points which I learned from all of your posts soon, because they covered so many important points, on Aspiration, Prayer, God, Spirituality, etc.

Uncle you said the act of helping others will give anybody more sustained happiness, then why are you looking for clarity only for yourself ? Cheesy I'm just kidding Uncle, please don't mind. Grin

Yes, you got me Uncle.

Every Friday night we have a Volleyball League. On 1 match, the other team won the first set and my team won the second set. We had a tie-breaker, usually we play to 25 points but for tie-breakers we only play to 15. The other team got a Game Point. The score was 15 to 14 (our team was 14.) You are only supposed to hit the ball 3 times when it's on your side of the court, on the 3rd hit the ball is supposed to go over the net. The other team hit the ball 4 times, so we got a point. the score was 15 to 15. To win, your team score and the other team score has to have a difference of atleast 2 points. Then I got the serve. Our score has to go all the way to 17. My first serve went over the net and we got the the point. Now the pressure was on. Before my serve, I closed my eyes and said "Please Baba Please Master Garu" then opened my eyes then served. My serve went over and the other team hit it 4 times, so we got the Game Point!! For the first time ever I got the Game-Winning Serve!!

I have a question, even though I know winning this game is only happiness, why do I and other people pray for happiness?? Maybe because we haven't experienced Anandam before?? For E.X. Someone told me Shogun (one of my favorite restaurants in real life.) has very nice food. We go through 5 steps.
1) We hear someone saying that restaurant is good.
2) Then we think lets try it.
3) We go to Shogun.
4) We try the food.
5) Then we can say if the food there is good or bad.
Like that many people on this forum have taught me that Anandam (bliss which is permanent happiness, that's what Master Garu explained in Matam Enduku?{I just discovered that if you read the word MATAM backwards it still stays MATAM Wink Shocked} And also Master Garu explained that Bliss is God and is in everybody ) is our main goal, it's better than happiness, etc. But I still I don't know how it feels like.

Why do we have to have Happiness?? Why can't we wait for Anandam without Happiness?? In my opinion, we need something to keep us occupied before we reach the main goal. Smiley

So which is first, Experience followed by Faith or vice versa?? In the above real-life example(Shogun restaurant) of mine, it was Experience followed by Faith. Is it silly to ask Experience followed by Faith in case of Anandam. Then we don't have to ask Baba or Master Garu for small things that only provide happiness.

But still I don't know if asking Master Garu for help (for happiness) is good or bad.... If it's bad, how are we supposed to pray?? I'm little confused to apply your statement here.
The statement is...it is important to pray with the right understanding. Right understanding of what God is

Uncle, can we discuss this in a thread that I previously started called God?? Since we are discussing about God. If you have time can you please go through the thread "God". Since I have few doubts left Grin Grin Grin.
